Natural-style living room

A textured nature-inspired wallpaper creates a fresh Spring look in this living room, and is combined with modern furniture and wooden accessories to create a natural feel. Highlights of green, as seen in the cushions and vases, give this neutral scheme a lift.

Modern vintage living room

Accessories and fabrics in shades of duck-egg blue, taupe and pearl keep this living room scheme looking pretty and fresh. A faded floral wallpaper is teamed with classic-style furniture to create a vintage feel, while a traditional fireplace with a delicately detailed large mirror becomes an eye-catching focal point.

Country cottage living room

Sisal flooring is a practical option in this living room, yet also adds a cosy touch to the relaxing scheme. It’s teamed with cream walls and white furniture to keep the room light. A cast-iron basket in the fireplace is perfect for the country look. Shelving storage makes great use of the extra alcove space.

Lounging living room

This tranquil living room has been given a sophisticated edge by pairing soft white walls and shutters with the deep ocean hues of the sofa and shaggy rug. The clean modernist lines add to this contemporary take on cool Cape Cod style.

Jade and coral living room

A highly decorative green feature wall is a striking focal point in this living room, and is offset by a clean-lined modern sofa to create maximum impact. The sofa has been upholstered in a vivid, coral block colour to add extra panache. A blue rug and blue paintwork echoes the wallpaper pattern for a stylish finish

Floral living room

Add character to a room by using a floral pattern. Use as a main detail of the room on a sofa from Sofa Workshop, mixed with chalky-pink curtains. Or add floral pattern through accessories like a vase, cushions or picture

Natural living room

For a natural, earthy look, combine neutral walls with dark woods. The sisal rug and wooden table complement each other and are perfectly matched by a rattan chair. Choose a striped fabric from Roger Oates, which is draped over the sofa, accessorised by cushions from Matalan. Finish off the look with a rattan lamp.

Contemporary living room

An urn filled with driftwood makes a dramatic sculpture by the windows. White curtains and walls maximise space and light. A black leather sofa by Zanotta on a textured rug and a Corona chair, designed by Paul Volther in 1961, marry contemporary and classic to create a stylish seating area.

Franch COuntry Bathroom Style.

Provençal decorating mixes a plain country look with heirlooms. Calm blue-grey Farrow & Ball walls and white woodwork provide a backdrop to a painted freestanding bath. An Osborne & Little floral blind and seat cushion from GP & J Baker pick up the colours of a painting. Bare stained boards are warm, a white heart-shaped metal chair adds glamour

Contemporary Bathroom Design.

White walls and woodwork and a limestone floor create brightness. The curvy bath and steel taps are by Philippe Starck. SPANISH HOME DECOR

Spanish- stuccoed walls, bold colors such as red, orange and gold, heavy dark colored furniture, use of wrought iron accessories. Other accent pieces include guitars, castanets, lace, Spanish hair combs, Bolero hats, and Spanish blankets.

ORIENTAL HOME DECOR

Oriental- most oriental decor is sparsely furnished with dark wooden pieces standing out against light walls. Simplicity, balance and practicality are the words most used when describing Oriental decor. There is a colorful array of accessories that can be used to compliment, of course beautiful oriental rugs, jade, ivory, coral and onyx pieces, elephants and dragons, silk kimono, fans, teak and lacquered wooden pieces, delicate tea sets and silk prints.

MORDERN HOME DECOR

Modern- futurist looking, concrete, stone, metal and glass. High tech comes to mind when thinking of this type of decor. Lots of open space, bright lighting, and square lines. The main colors are basic and cool, with splashes of bright colors. Abstract artwork will combine well with this decor as well as usual hand blown glass pieces.

MEDITERANIAN HOME DECOR

Mediterranean- use colors such as terracotta, warm yellows and other earth tones. Distressed finishes and simple patterns will suit this style best. Blue and gold accents will really set this style off. Accent pieces here should include pottery and aquatic pieces.

TRADITIONAL HOME DECOR.

Whimsical- light and fanciful. Bright colors and unusual patterns. Such as pink spotted fish, a wooden chair painted in several different colors and with several different patterns. I would consider Mary Engelbreit’s designs whimsical. Her use of different colors and different patterns on one piece are definitelyWhimsical and full of imagination.

WHIMSICAL HOME DECOR.

ART DECOR

Art Deco- this term comes from the designs of the 20's, 30's and early 40's. Lines were elegant, streamlined and angular. Vibrant colors were predominant. Neon, chrome and other metal furnishings, bakelite plastics and inlayed furniture were popular for the Art Deco period.

ELECTIC STYLE HOME DECOR

Eclectic- this is a style that most people use. It is a combination of many styles. Just choose your favorite pieces to combine into a style all your own.

Contemporary

Contemporary- this is a style in which patterns are bold and bright, while using a lightly colored background. Use neutral coloring for walls and furniture, but add bright splashes of color in accessories. Colors included should be such as fushia, deep purple and teals. Abstracts and vinyl will compliment a Contemporary decor.

COTTAGE COUNTRY

Cottage Country- this is an interesting variety of pastel colors such as mauve, pinks, pale greens, peaches and blues in a floral or fruit patterned fabrics. Painted wicker, and most definitely cottage type flowers and herbs. I do believe this term came from people that had large homes in the city, and traveled to their small country cottages for summer. Usually located near water, some nautical items should also be present such as shells and stones. Lightly covered windows, using gauzy fabrics will bring a Cottage Country feel.

FRENCH COUNTRY HOME DECOR

French Country- yellows, blues, rooster collections, tiles on the floor and walls. When applied to interior design generally means a mix between elegant and rustic. Faded or whitewashed wood, blue, pink and yellow small prints and flowered fabrics, sunflowers in a dripware pitcher. These elements constitute French Country.

COUNTRY HOM DECOR

Country- while country is a rather general term, it actually depicts a class of pieces a little higher than primitive. Such as antique cotton quilts, Hoosier cupboards, stoneware bowls, enamelware and wooden dovetailed boxes. Wood and cotton fabrics

seem prevail in Country Decorating

VICTORIAN HOME DECOR.

Victorian- characterized by rich brocades and velvets, both in furniture, walls and window dressings. Mauves, burgundies, rich blues and greens, along with lace and fringe compliment Victorian furnishings. Porcelain dolls, wicker, old high button shoes, hats and hat boxes, buttons and dried flowers are wonderful accent pieces to a Victorian Decor.

Different Styles of home decor.

While home decorating styles are as different as the individuals doing the decorating, I for one, am always confused about the difference between say, Country or French Country. Modern and Art Deco. So to satisfy my curiosity I did some research and this is what I came up with. While styles may vary from region to region, this is a very basic description of some decorating style terms, along with some pieces or accessories that would be in each category.

Transforming a house to home.

When we talk about homes, we do not mean fickle fashion moments, we mean the culture shifts that prompt fresh ways of understanding what is happening in the world.

There are no ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ when it comes to design your home. Trend is a treatment of space. A home is a space contained with in four walls; how that space is treated depends on the perception of the designer. Trend relates to our every day lives, from the colors of the things in the shop to the nature of our politics.

When it comes to characterize my personal stile, my preference is for natural materials. I don’t like manmade materials or plastic interiors. I like materials God has made for us to use.

Materials like wood, stone, marble and leather provide the anchor and roots. We all need within our homes.

I have an inclination towards white, beige and pastel colors. Our homes should blend in and adapt to our surroundings. If we live in a city where the climate is hot for most of the year, we need to use cool colors with in our homes.

Three most important things a house needs are space, space and space. Designers cannot create a setting that accommodates all of the home owner’s needs and desires with out adequate space.
